An old woman from Ohio has been sentenced to 10 days in prison for feeding stray cats, after her neighbors complained to the authorities about their act of generosity.
Nancy Segula, 79, began feeding the cats that visited her porch for some years. “I used to have a neighbor who had a couple of cats and he moved, so he left them. I always fed them and took care of them because I was worried about them and I am a cat lover, ”the woman told WJW.
Nancy turned her home in Garfield Heights into a shelter for cats in. However, her neighbors were not happy with her actions, although there was no bad intention in her.
The dissatisfied neighbors began to report it to the authorities, until they issued a subpoena for her.
In total, he received three other notifications, the last one indicating that he had to appear before a judge, who finally decided to sentence her to spend 10 days in the Cuyahoga County prison.
Dave Pawlowski, son of Nancy, told the same media that he is still incredulous about the punishment his mother received for feeding abandoned animals.
“I am sure that people listen to the things that happen in the center of that jail. And are they going to let my 79-year-old mother go there? ”He told WJW.
The sentence against women is due to an ordinance that qualifies it as illegal to feed stray dogs and cats in their city, but the family does not believe she should go to jail for taking care of the animals.
“It is a great sentence for me for what I am doing. When there are so many people out there that do bad things, ”Segula said in the interview.
